Feb 06, Saturday, New Delhi: Basketball federation of India rewarded Indian men and women team players with Rs. 20000 and Rs. 15000 for their medal winning performance.
Secy Genl. Basketball federation of India, Harish Sharma, awarded players with the cheque as a token of appreciation for their performance at Asian indoor games held in Vietnam and SAG Games held at Bangladesh respectively. Women team members received 20000 and men team members received Rs. 15000.
Although all the members of women and men Indian basketball team were not present their but current Indian team captain Prashanti Singh and member of Indian men Basketball Team, Trideep Rai received the cheque in the BFI office, New Delhi.

Afghanistan, who beat India team early in the league match, could manage to defeat Indian team in the finals by 1 point. Indian team who out performed Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the host Bangladesh in the league matches could not beat Afghanistan and missed gold medal in the tough game.
“We could have won the gold medal but losing by one point is heart breaking, team played really well. I am happy that BFI is appreciating our hard work”, says Rai, Member of Indian Team.
Few months back Indian women basketball team won Silver medal at the Asian Indoor games held in Vietnam. They were all set for the gold medal but lost to Thailand in a hard breaking 1 point game. Indian team was leading by 5 points but Thailand managed to overcome the lead and finished the game with a 3 pointer shot at the end.
“It seems like few days back we lost a very important game but we are all going to work really hard for Asian games. I would thank BFI to encourage and support us”, Singh, Captain Women Team.
Basketball federation of India is going to organize a coaching camp for Asian games from 15th march. Indian basketball team is going to participate in the Asian game after very long time where the team would face top teams like China, Japan, and Korea etc.
