William John Donovan Jr. is a basketball coach and is the head coach of the Chicago Bulls as of November 2024. A former NBA player, Donovan played for the New York Knicks from 1987 to 1988. He was selected by the Utah Jazz as their 68th overall pick in the third round of the 1987 NBA Draft but was waived by the Jazz before the regular season began. Additionally, he played for the Wyoming Wildcatters and the Rapid City Thrillers in the Continental Basketball Association.

Billy Donovan began his basketball career as a graduate coach for the Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball team in 1989. He was later promoted to associate head coach in 1992. After his time at Kentucky, he served as head coach for both the Marshall Thundering Herd men's basketball team and the Florida Gators men's basketball team between 1994-2015. While coaching for the Gators, Donovan won back to back NCAA Championships in 2006 and 2007. He made his NBA coaching debut with the Oklahoma City Thunder on April 30, 2015. Although he initially signed a contract with the Orlando Magic in 2007, he withdrew from the contract and remained with the Florida Gators.

Donovan was inducted into the Friars' Hall of Fame in 1999, according to the Friars official website. Donovan also coached the USA men's basketball team. He was the coach for the 2012 FIBA Under-18 Americas Championship in Brazil, the 2014 FIBA Under-18 Americas Championship in United States, and the 2013 FIBA Under-19 World Championship in Czech Republic. He won gold medals in all the competitions.
