Billy Donovan is a basketball coach who holds the position of head coach for the Chicago Bulls in the NBA. He was born on May 30, 1965, in Rockville Centre, New York, and has a distinguished career as both a player and a coach. Donovan played college basketball at Providence College, guiding his team to the Final Four in 1987. In the 1987 NBA Draft, he was selected by the Utah Jazz in the third round (68th overall), but he did not make it through to the regular season after being waived. Nevertheless, he went on to play professionally for several teams including the Wyoming Wildcatters in 1987, followed by stints with the New York Knicks from 1987 to 1988 and then with Rapid City Thrillers.

He began his coaching career as an assistant coach with the Kentucky Wildcats in 1989 before taking on his first head coaching role with Marshall’s Thundering Herd from 1994 until 1996. Following that tenure, he served as head coach for Florida from 1996 to 2015 and later for Oklahoma City Thunder from 2015 until now with Chicago Bulls starting in 2020. As a head coach, one of Donovan's most notable accomplishments includes winning consecutive NCAA national championships while at Florida in both 2006 and 2007.
