Bol Bol grew up in Olathe, Kansas, where there is a big Sudanese community. He started playing basketball under his father, former NBA star Manute Bol. He quickly learned the fundamentals of the game and had a distinctive high school career, playing for four different high schools and earning a five-star athlete status.

Later, Bol Bol played only a single season at the University of Oregon, where he faced an injury that limited him to just nine games, and his draft prospects declined. In the 2019 NBA Draft, he was initially selected by the Miami Heat with the 44th overall pick but was later traded to the Denver Nuggets. Subsequently, he also played for the Orlando Magic and currently finds himself with the Phoenix Suns.
