Boston Celtics 2024 NBA Draft Picks: Who did the defending champions pick?

The Boston Celtics had the last pick in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft, and the champions used it wisely to draft Baylor Scheierman from Creighton. Scheierman is not a standout from the 2024 draft class, like Alex Sarr or Zaccharie Risscher, but is a versatile player able to handle multiple tasks on the court.

The 23-year-old, six-foot-six player had a great season last year, averaging 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists. He shot 44.8 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from downtown.

Scheierman is a solid pick who fits the Celtics very well, and he had a great showing of his abilities in the NBA draft combine, earning a lot of praise for his performances.

The Boston Celtics are a team that will be a championship-favorite in years to come. Their core is strong, with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown leading the way. Scheierman's addition to the squad will allow him to be in a competitive environment and learn from the very best in the league.

Moreover, there won't be any pressure on him to give huge contributions to the team from the get-go. He will have his time to learn and hone his craft to become the best version of himself. The only issue the Creighton star could face is game time. It cannot be surely said if Joe Mazzula will give the newbie a lot of game time.

Fans can expect Scheierman to spend more time on the bench in his rookie year and observing other players as the Celtics squad right now is stacked with a lot of talented players.
