In a rematch of the 2024 NBA finals, the defending champion Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks 122-107 on Saturday at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

Jayson Tatum, recently named an All-Star for the sixth time in his young career, led the balanced Boston offense, where all starters scored at least 17 points. Tatum had 24 points and six rebounds on 8-for-22 shooting. Derrick White scored 23 points for Boston, while Jaylen Brown had 22, Kristaps Porzingis with 18 points, and Jrue Holiday added 17.

On the other end, Kyrie Irving led Dallas in scoring with 22 points on 11-for-23 shooting (47.8%). He also had five assists and four rebounds. Quentin Grimes contributed 20 points off the bench, while Daniel Gafford finished with a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds.

Boston, the NBA leader in 3-pointers made (17.8) and attempted (48.9) per game, went 20-for-52 (38.5%) on Saturday. The Celtics' starting backcourt of White and Holiday was 9-for-20. In comparison, the Mavericks, as a team, only made eight 3-pointers on 22 attempts.

The Celtics are coming off a 117-96 beating against their rivals, the LA Lakers. The 21-point margin was Boston's worst loss this season. The game at Crypto.com Arena on Thursday marked Boston's fifth game in seven nights.

Meanwhile, the short-handed Mavericks are coming off a huge 121-115 win over the Western Conference-leading OKC Thunder on Thursday. Dallas is still without superstar Luka Doncic, who remains sidelined with a left calf strain. He already missed 23 games this season while only appearing in 22. Dallas is 5-11 since Doncic went down.

For Saturday's finals rematch, Boston's injury list is clean, with all players available for coach Joe Mazzulla. On the other end, Dallas has listed five players as out, led by Doncic. Coach Jason Kidd started Irving, Gafford, Klay Thompson, P.J. Washington, and Spencer Dinwiddie.

This is Dallas and Boston's first meeting since the 2024 NBA finals. The teams will meet again on Feb. 6 at TD Garden in Boston to complete their two-game season series.
