A lot has changed since the Golden State Warriors last played the Boston Celtics. Steph Curry led the Bay Area side with a 27-point outing to record a 118-112 win. Now, the Warriors are a team outside of the Top 10 in the West, while the Celtics have their problems after a strong start to the season.

To a certain extent, the Celtics despite their 6-4 run and their 14-5 record are still considered legitimate title contenders. They are not the clinical side they were last season, but the defending champions have the firepower and the chemistry to make a surge in the standings and finish with a healthy record in the East.

As for the Warriors, the recent string of performances coupled with enough drama on the sidelines sees them as a play-in side at best. Barring the two wins on the bounce that restores parity to some degree, the Warriors are 11-10 at home and are 5-5 in their last 10 games. Trade moves and discussions aside, health and inconsistency have been bigger challenges for Steve Kerr and Co. this season.

At this point, what Golden State needs are upgrades. Dennis Schroder's arrival hasn't moved the needle much, while Buddy Hield, reportedly pegged to be Klay Thompson's replacement has blown hot and cold throughout his career as a Warrior. What the side needs is a scoring wing and a big — both of which give the side a winning chance and alleviate the burden on Curry and Draymond Green drastically.

The Monday matchup is all about consistency for both sides. Will Boston get back to winning ways? Or can Golden State extend the Celtics' misery and continue their surge?

Boston Celtics vs Golden State Warriors Preview

The Celtics have wobbled of late, dropping four of their last 10 contests. They come off a loss to the Atlanta Hawks despite Jaylen Brown's double-double. Like the Warriors, they are a side looking for consistency despite their 29-13 record. Against the Hawks, the Celtics struggled to execute late in the game, while also allowing Atlanta to dictate the pace throughout the contest.

It didn't help that Jayson Tatum missed a free throw with 7.9 seconds left in regulation and later failed to land a jumper. He ended up missing a key rebound. Brown was denied of his chance in overtime as well and he compounded Boston's woes by committing a turnover. It was one of those games the Celtics should have pocketed but were guilty of squandering.

Now, they will look to regroup against the Warriors, a side that's become a pale shadow of what they were a few seasons ago. That they are 21-20 at the halfway mark highlights the reliance on Steph Curry as they sit well outside of playoff contention at this point.

The good news for Golden State is the two consecutive wins they have recorded, giving them that much-needed jolt of confidence. They play the next game on the road against the Sacramento Kings and return home for a six-game homestand. While the scheduling makes it east, they face a string of tough opponents before heading into the All-Star break. The next six games starting with Monday night's matchup against Boston mark a crucial stretch for the Warriors.

The Celtics have a league-best fourth-placed scoring offense averaging 117.5 points per game and 116.6 points per 100 possessions. They are 20th in FG offense draining 45.7% from the field and 15th in 3-point offense averaging 36.2%. Boston is 10th offensive rebounds grabbing 11.3 boards per game.

On the other hand, the Warriors are 18th in scoring offense averaging 111.4 points and 109.5 points per 100 possessions. They are 24th in field goal offense with 44.8% and 12th in downtown offense with 36.5% of their 3s.

They are the better offensive-rebounding side taking third place in the NBA this season with 12.9 rebounds per game. The Celtics are sixth in scoring defense averaging 108.6 points per game and allowing their opponents 107.7 points per every 100 possessions. The Warriors are eighth on that front conceding 108.5 points per 100 possessions.

Boston Celtics vs Golden State Warriors Prediction

The Celtics might not have been the richest of form, but they will fancy their chances against the depleted Golden State Warriors. Green's and Kuminga's absence on the defensive end will be felt and that could be one area Boston can exploit. Take the Celtics to win this matchup.
