The Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers started the game with a 30-25 win for the visitors in the first quarter, making a statement against the defending champions that they wouldn't go down without a fight.
Philly continued its dominance in the second period, with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey showing off their skills scoring in double digits (18 points each), the same as Guerschon Yabusele, who added 10 points coming off the bench.
Jayson Tatum, Al Horford and Derrick White led the Celtics in the first half with 16, 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Jaylen Brown failed to make an impact with only two points. Despite being up for a big chunk of the second quarter, the 76ers only had a three-point advantage in the second half, entering halftime up 66-58.
The Boston Celtics came back to life in the third quarter, taking it 24-16 to tie the game at 82 points ahead of the fourth and final period. Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey continued their good performances while the Celtics counted on Jayson Tatum and Al Horford to lead this comeback.
The fourth quarter favored the 76ers again, as they went on a 23-12 run in the first seven minutes of the game, taking a 105-94 lead. The Celtics went on a 15-3 run to cut the lead to three points with two minutes left on the clock before the 76ers managed their advantage and grabbed the 118-114 upset win against the defending NBA champions.
