How many years did Brandon Ingram play in college?

Last Modified Nov 27, 2023 09:27 GMT

Brandon Ingram is one of the best small forwards in the NBA today, with a slender build and a pure scorer skillset, who currently plays small forward for the New Orleans Pelicans. It took Ingram some time to build his game and reach the level that he is at today. He started his career in the NBA after the Los Angeles Lakers picked him with the 2nd overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. He is a versatile forward who can also play Power Forward and even Center at times. The closest comparison to Ingram would be Kevin Durant as both of them are long, tall, and terrific scorers.

Ingram was a five-star college recruit coming out of high school and was considered to be one of the best prospects of the 2015 class. He has been an All-Star and was the Most Improved Player in the 2019-2020 NBA season. Last season was the best scoring year for Ingram as he put up 24.7 points, 5.8 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 39.0 percent from the 3-pt line.

In terms of his ceiling as a player, Ingram can be one of the best 2-way players in the league. He can defend any position with his long arms and height but can also do playmaking and score on the offensive side of the floor. At 26 years of age, he is definitely one of the most complete players in the game today.

The big three in New Orleans (Ingram, McCollum, and Williamson) have not gotten enough time together, mainly due to injuries. If the Pelicans get healthy, they can arguably go toe-to-toe against any team in the NBA as we saw last season.

Brandon Ingram’s total years spent in college

Ingram played for only a single season of college ball before entering the NBA draft. He committed to Duke University and played under coach K (Mike Krzyzewski) for a year where he averaged 17.3 points, 2.0 assists, and 6.8 rebound per game on a shooting split of 44.2 percent from the field, 41.0 percent from three, and 68.2 percent from the free throw line.

Ingram had one of the best seasons for a young player at Duke. He scored the 3rd most points amongst school’s all-time freshman leaders , second in threes, and also second in 20 point games. After a year with the Blue Devils, Ingram decided to skip his college career and jumped straight in the NBA.

Currently, he is one of the best scorers in the league and can score from all three levels. Ingram has also performed well in the single playoff run he has had so far and averaged 27.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists on 47.5 percent shooting from the field and 40.7 percent from three-point range. Ingram has a lot of room for growth and is far from a finished product.
