The Rui Hachimura-led Japan outfit has a chance to end its 2024 Paris Olympics run on a solid note on Friday (Aug 2). They take on Brazil at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium as both sides look to notch up their first Olympics win after losing two games each. It's unlikely either of the two teams make the knockout stages, but their Group B clash is about fighting for that elusive win.
Japan almost pulled off a surprise against France on Tuesday as they lost by four points in overtime. Hachimura was ejected with eight minutes of play left and the French ultimately staved off the threat to win 94-90. Brazil went down to Germany earlier with their offense sputtering for the second straight game. None of their starters managed to get to double figures on Tuesday.

Brazil vs Japan: Preview
On paper, the odds may favor Brazil, but considering how Japan showed its spunk against Germany, the contest is pretty much an open showdown. Hachimura himself had a field day with a double-double. He put up 20 points and 10 rebounds before his ejection. Yuki Kawamura (29 points) and Josh Hawkinson (16 points) were the perfect foil on offense as they kept their team in the game. Their defense, though, needs work, as does their perimeter shooting.
Against Brazil, a team that's yet to breach the 80-point mark and shore up heavily on offense, they will fancy their chances. Yago Santos' 18 points were probably the only saving grace for the side in their second group-stage loss against Germany. With all teams in Group B left with a game each, Hachimura and co. will hope to end things on a winning note.
Brazil vs Japan: Prediction
Japan is a favorite to win this contest. Their offense has held up better than Brazil, and they have the pace to push past their opponents. The game vs France was an indicator of what their ceiling is in a marquee competition. Take the Japanese for the win on Friday.
