Brittney Griner is currently the most popular WNBA player. The 6-foot-9 star has spent her entire career with the Phoenix Mercury and has been through a lot in the past year.
After being sentenced to nine years in a Russian prison, Griner was released and returned to the United States. The WNBA center intends on returning to the basketball league soon, where she is expected to dominate once again.
The 32-year-old center has had a successful professional career so far, winning one title and many other accolades. However, she's also had some negative experiences, such as fines, suspensions, and on-court fights.
Back in August 2019, Griner was involved in a fight on the court, which resulted in a three-game suspension for her.

On Aug. 10, 2019, the 6-foot-9 center was involved in an on-court fight against another player. The fight occurred in the fourth quarter of the Phoenix Mercury-Dallas Wings game, and Griner was suspended for three games due to it.
”I’m not doing it for the money because we don’t make enough and they want to fine me for every little thing," Griner said after her suspension.
"I’m getting techs for protecting myself in games and flagrants because they always only see me," the WNBA star added. "They never see anything beforehand. I’m basically not getting paid this summer already."
Not only did Griner say that she wasn't paid enough, but she also implied that she's lost too much money due to fines. This is why she played in Russia, where she was paid more than $1 million per season.
Brittney Griner doesn't make a huge amount of money in the WNBA
While some NBA players are paid nearly $50 million per year, the situation in the WNBA is much worse. The supermax contract in the league is less than a quarter of a million dollars, which is very disappointing.
Due to this, a lot of talented female players play overseas during the offseason. Despite being one of the best players in the WNBA, Griner is paid slightly more than $200,000.
