Born on December 17, 1992, Chavano Rainer "Buddy" Hield is a Bahamian small forward/shooting guard who plays for the Indiana Pacers in the NBA.

Hield grew up in Eight Mile Rock in the Bahamas and attended Sunrise Christian Academy high school in Kansas. He led his team to the National Association of Christian Athletes national championship in his junior season and was also named MVP of the tournament.

For college, Hield attended the University of Oklahoma, where he was included in the First-team All-Big 12 and was named Big 12 Conference Basketball Player of the Year as a junior. He won the John R. Wooden Award on April 7, 2016, following his senior season, as the best basketball player for the season.

The New Orleans Pelicans selected Hield with the sixth overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. However, he was traded to the Sacramento Kings midway through his rookie season. After six seasons with the Kings, Hield was traded to the Indiana Pacers. He is the fastest in NBA history to make 1,000 3-pointers and second fastest behind Steph Curry to make 1500 3-point field goals. He won the NBA Three-Point Contest in 2020.

The 2023/24 season is the final year of Hield’s four-year $94 million contract that he signed with the Sacramento Kings. He is set to earn $18,568,183 for the 2023/24 season and will become an unrestricted free agent in the 2024 offseason.
