Cameron Johnson is an American professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets. Born on March 3, 1996, Johnson plays as a small forward but is also capable of stepping in as a power forward and even shooting guard due to his versatility. Johnson was selected with the 11th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves but was immediately traded to the Phoenix Suns before his rookie season. Since the first game of his NBA career, Johnson established himself as a great two-way player, as he averaged 8.8 points per game and shot 39% from three-point range over 22 minutes per game in his first season. Johnson set a franchise record as the fastest Suns player to reach 100 three-pointers, previously held by Wesley Person.

In his second season, Cam Johnson continued as a crucial rotational piece, helping the Suns reach the NBA Finals in 2021. On March 4, 2022, Cam Johnson scored a career-high 38 points, including nine three-pointers and a game-winning, buzzer-beating shot, to lead the Suns to a 115–114 victory over the New York Knicks. That same season, Johnson was an integral part of the Suns' squad, which achieved the best record in the NBA. His standout performance throughout the season earned him a third-place finish in the NBA Sixth Man of the Year voting, trailing only Tyler Herro and Kevin Love. In February 2023, Johnson was traded to the Brooklyn Nets, where he continues to make a significant impact as of October 2024.

Cameron Johnson Playing for Pittsburg

Cameron Johnson graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in communications. His academic journey began at Pittsburgh, where he faced challenges, as a shoulder injury while playing for their Panthers basketball team led Johnson to redshirt his first season. Despite these hurdles in his athletic career, Johnson showed a strong commitment to his education, as he utilized the graduate transfer rule to move to the University of North Carolina. This allowed him to continue his basketball career without losing academic progress.

Johnson attributes much of his academic success to the influence of his older brother, Aaron, who served as a role model. Aaron was valedictorian of his high school class and a high-achieving student. This inspired Cameron to strive for excellence both on the court and in the classroom, as per Arizona Sports. Johnson's dedication to academics remained a priority to him, even after his getting drafted into the NBA, as it was reported that Johnson completed a Master’s thesis during the 2020-21 NBA season.
