Cameron Johnson was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 11th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. However, before his rookie season, the Timberwolves traded him to the Phoenix Suns along with Dario Šarić for Jarrett Culver who was the sixth overall pick in the same draft. Cam Johnson entered the NBA at the age of 23, with five years of college experience behind. This made him "NBA-ready" and mentally strong from the start. Johnson quickly proved his value as a perimeter shooter in his rookie season. He set a franchise record as the fastest Suns player to reach 100 three-pointers. In his first year with the Suns, Johnson played 57 games, averaging 8.8 points per game while shooting 39% from three-point range. It was a great three-point percentage for a rookie who was attempting almost five three-pointers per game.

In his second year, Cam Johnson contributed to the Suns’ run to the 2021 NBA Finals. During the playoffs, he averaged 8.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.9 steals per game in 21.1 minutes per game. By his third season, Johnson had developed into one of the NBA's best two-way wings, finishing third in Sixth Man of the Year voting. Johnson’s fourth season also began strong with the Suns, as he started 16 of the first 17 games and averaged 13.9 points per game. This is when he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets.

Brooklyn Nets

On February 9, 2023, Cam Johnson was traded to the Brooklyn Nets as part of a massive trade deal that sent superstar Kevin Durant to the Suns. The trade also involved Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, four unprotected first-round picks, and a 2028 first-round pick swap. As soon as Cam Johnson got traded, his role with the Nets increased significantly. He became a regular starter on a younger team and all his stats improved drastically. In July 2024, Cam Johnson signed a four-year, $94.5 million contract extension with the Brooklyn Nets as per Spotrac. As of November 2024, he is averaging 16.5 points per game in the 2024-25 season for the Nets.
