On Wednesday, the Texas prosecutor moved to dismiss the domestic violence case against former Texas Longhorns' Chris Beard. On December 15th, Beard was arrested after his fiancee Randi Trew called 911 and told officers Beard was aggressive by strangling and hitting her, she explained to the police.
"After a careful and thorough review of the evidence, recent public statements, and considering Ms. Trew's wishes, our office has determined that the felony offense cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt," the Travis County District Attorney's Office said in a statement.
Trew issued a statement claiming to be the initiator a week later, but it was not enough to save Beard's job with the Longhorns. Now that Beard has a contract with five of the seven years remaining that could be voided or bought out, we look at some teams that might be interested in his services next year.
But who and where would Chris Beard be a good fit for their University? According to Goodman and others, there are a good number of schools interested in his services.
Starting with a team that needs a jumpstart and a fresh start in the Georgetown Hoyas. A promising shooting guard from Montverde Academy, Marvel Allen is already signed there, and having the ability to enter the transfer portal and pull players could make this a perfect match for Beard as he continues to grow his resume on the East Coast.
Everyone knows that the Hoyas have publicly stated their support for former Hoyas legend and NBA legend Patrick Ewing, but after this season, it will be time to seriously consider hiring another coach in Washington, DC. With the Hoyas currently ranked 11th in the Big East at 6-21, it is time for everyone on campus to think about what is best for this basketball programme.
A team that struggles defensively, ranking 232nd in steals in the country with six a game and a defensive rating(111.9) that has them tied for 340th. Something a Chris Beard team would never be is towards the bottom tier defensively. Chris may be able to go over next door to Alberquerque and revive the culture and the authenticity of New Mexico State.
The Aggies let Head Coach Greg Heiar in after the rest of the season was postponed due to hazing allegations. Before the season was canceled and he was fired, the Aggies had a dismal 9-15 overall record and a 2-10 conference record. The school is conducting an extensive investigation, which may not be the best situation for either party. That may be why this is such a good match.
The Aggies received a coach that should be coaching at an even higher level than Mountain West, that can recruit and bring some warranted attention to a team that is getting a lot of negative attention. For Beard, he can use himself as a Liaison as someone that has been given a second chance and is willing to work to get this program back to relevancy.
Notre Dame is a very interesting idea for Chris Beard as we know after 23 seasons, head coach Mike Brey will be retiring officially. The question that will have to be answered that hasn't been answered this millennium is how desirable the Notre Dame job is.
They may have the idea to call on James Madison's high-level Coach Darian DeVries. A fast-paced style that fits ACC play and could bold well for the Irish, however, if we want a gritty team defensively, Beard could come in and be the liaison. This would be in a conference that is still prominent enough and could be somewhere that he could find himself being for a very long time.
Although this is Notre Dame, the tradition is rich and some fans and alumni were not too thrilled at Beard's former situation. However, someone will give Beard another chance as he is a coach who is too talented not to be provided another opportunity to lead the University to a National championship.
