Cedi Osman is a Turkish born basketball player for the NBA team San Antonio Spurs. He was born on April 8, 1995 in Ohrid, Macedonia. Inspired by his brother’s relation to basketball, Osman’s journey in basketball began at an early age. He played competitively for youth teams to hone his skills. He played with KK Bosna’s youth divisions before signing with a team named Anadolu Efes, where he was able to display his skill and passion for the game.

Some of these include being named to the BSL All-Star three times and securing titles such as the Turkish Cup and Turkish Supercup. Furthermore, being born in Turkey, led him to earn citizenship which allowed Osman to play at the international level, joining the Turkish team for Under-16, Under-18 and Under-20 Championships.

Osman declared for the NBA draft in the 2015 NBA season. He was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves as the 31st overall pick. However, due to his draft rights being transferred to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Osman joined the Cavaliers in their attempt to secure a championship. With the Cavaliers, Cedi solidified himself into a valuable bench player. He came to be recognized for his chemistry with Lebron James. After Lebron James decided to leave the Cavaliers for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018, the Cavaliers decided to rebuild their team with Osman as their central player. This cemented his near future with the team as the Cavaliers gave Osman a two-year extension on his contract.

Osman is now playing his 7th season in the NBA as a part of the San Antonio Spurs after being traded from the Cavaliers in a three-team trade, as of March 2024. Osman continues to develop himself as a key player on the Spurs’ roster playing alongside the rookie, Victor Wembenyama. His burst of energy, scoring ability, defensive prowess and international experience bring a unique dimension to the game.
