After suffereing a defeat in their opening game, the Chennai Slam came back with a vengeance to beat the Pune Peshwas 73-56 in the first game of the double-header on Sunday at the Gachibowli stadium on Sunday.
The opening quarter began on a dull note as neither team could score a basket for as long as three minutes. It was the Chennai slam who broke the deadlock, scoring a 3 pointer to open their account. The Pune Peshwas also got into the act later, but it was Chennai who dominated most of the quarter, and led 20-13 at the end of it.
The second quarter proved to be a much more gripping affair but it was the Peshwas who got the better of the proceedings despite finishing the quarter four points behind, at 32-36.
The third quarter witnessed good defensive play from both teams but once again, it was the Slam who edged away with a seven-point lead. They finished the quarter 51-44 up.
The fourth and final quarter saw the Slam totally dominate proceedings thanks to yet another impressive peformance by Agu, who with his three-pointers put the pressure well and truly on the Peshwas. Pune’s men could score a mere 5 points in the last frame and eventually ended up on the losing side.
