Chet Thomas Holmgren is a professional basketball player for the Oklahoma City Thunder as of November 2024. Standing 7 feet 1 inch tall, Holmgren played as a center and was selected second overall in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Thunder. His basketball journey began at Minnehaha Academy High School, where he was rated a five-star recruit. In 2021, Holmgren committed to Gonzaga University for his college career. In his college debut, he recorded 14 points, 13 rebounds, seven blocks, and six assists. During his freshman year at Gonzaga, Holmgren averaged 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks per game, helping his team reach the Final Four in the 2022 NCAA tournament.

Holmgren was drafted by the Thunder with the second overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft. Holmgren showed promise in the NBA Summer League, scoring 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and six blocks. However, an ankle injury during a Drew League game forced him to miss the entire 2022-23 NBA season. Holmgren made his official NBA debut on October 25, 2023, against the Chicago Bulls. Two days later, he set a Thunder rookie record with seven blocks in a single game, contributing 16 points and 13 rebounds. Major Injuries suffered by Chet Holmgren

Foot Injury (October 2022):

His first major setback came before his rookie season in October 2022. Holmgren suffered a Lisfranc injury to his right foot during the CrawsOver Pro-Am event while defending LeBron James on a fast break. According to the NBA's official website, the injury required surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his foot. This injury forced Holmgren to miss the entire 2022-23 NBA season. The Thunder's medical team, after consulting with three of the nation's top foot specialists, took an extremely conservative approach to his rehabilitation to ensure a complete recovery, according to the NBA Official website.

Hip Injury (November 2024):

As per The Oklahoman, in November 2024, Holmgren sustained his second significant injury when he suffered a right iliac wing fracture after a severe fall during a game against the Golden State Warriors. The injury occurred during the first half of the Thunder's 127-116 loss to the Warriors. According to the Thunder's medical staff, the recovery timeline was estimated at eight to ten weeks before an update on his return-to-play protocol would be provided. This injury interrupted what was shaping up to be a potential All-Star season for Holmgren, who had previously demonstrated his durability by playing all 82 games in the 2023-24 season following his return from the Lisfranc injury.
