Cody Zeller is a veteran American professional basketball player who is currently playing for the New Orleans Pelicans. Zeller was selected as the 4th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft by the Charlotte Bobcats (now Hornets) after playing two standout seasons at Indiana University.
Over his first 8 NBA seasons, Zeller was a core player for a rebuilding Hornets franchise. He played in all 82 games in his rookie season while averaging a respectable 6.0 points and 4.3 rebounds in just 17.3 minutes per contest. His consistency and work ethic quickly made him a fan favorite in Charlotte. Zeller steadily improved over the years and he peaked during the 2019-2020 season, putting up solid averages of 11.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 52.4% from the field.
After many losing seasons with the Hornets, Zeller was finally traded to a playoff contender in the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2021 season. However, injuries derailed his lone season in Portland as he was limited to just 27 games. With his role diminishing, Zeller signed with the Miami Heat the following year where he regained some of his old form, providing key minutes off the bench for one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
Now in the twilight of his career at age 31, Zeller joins a young Pelicans squad. Though his numbers are down in a bench role, his savvy veteran presence is highly valued in the locker room.

Zeller joined the Indiana University basketball program in 2010 as one of the most highly-touted recruits in the nation. Labeled the "savior of Indiana basketball," the 7-foot McDonald's All-American arrived in Bloomington with immense expectations to help revive the struggling program.
As a freshman in 2011-2012, Zeller made an immediate impact by averaging 15.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. He led Indiana with a 62.3% shooting percentage from the field while establishing the second-highest mark in school history. His consistent and efficient offensive production helped propel the Hoosiers to a significant turnaround, advancing to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. For his stellar debut season, Zeller got the Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors.
After briefly considering the NBA Draft, Zeller opted to return to Indiana for a second collegiate season. With Zeller serving as the cornerstone, the 2012-2013 Hoosiers ascended to #1 in the national rankings and earned a #1 seed in March Madness.
On a stacked squad filled with pro talent, the sophomore big man averaged 16.5 points and 8.0 rebounds while again leading the conference in field goal percentage (56.4%). Zeller collected various All-American accolades and was instrumental in Indiana winning their first outright Big Ten title in over 20 years.
