The captain of the defending champions the Golden State Warriors, Steph Curry, looks even better than he did last season. The 2015 NBA MVP showed he hasn’t missed a step with his 40 points in the season opener and followed it up with an exhilarating 53-point masterpiece. The New Orleans Pelicans were once again at the receiving end of Steph’s arsenal as he wove through them and landed ridiculously long three-pointers.
The game was on an even keel at the end of the second quarter, with the Pelicans leading at 65-64. Just when it seemed that the fatigue of back-to-back games might be getting to them, Curry star stepped up and wrested the game away, singe-handedly outscoring the Pelicans 28-26 in the 3rd quarter. This makes him the only player since Michael Jordan in 1989 to score 118 points in the first 3 games of a season.

Curry made 8 three-pointers and 9 assists en-route to his 53 point game, which was just one short of his 54-point magnus opus in 2013. Here’s the video of the unbelievable 3rd quarter:

WESTBROOK AND KEVIN DURANT MAKE 40+ TO SAVE THE GAME AGAINST THE MAGIC
Russel Westbrook banked in a game-saving three-pointer from just inside halfcourt with 2 seconds left to force the match into the first of 2 overtimes against the Orlando Magic. Victor Oladipo would swish a three in the dying seconds of the 4th quarter which seemed a match-winner, with the Thunder having no time-outs remaining. But Westbrook would effortlessly astonish the crowd with a jumpshot from just ahead of the half-court border to equalize and force overtime.
Westbrook’s floater would put the Thunder ahead in the first overtime, but Magic’s star Guard Victor Oladipo would sink a corner three to force a second overtime. The Magic went toe-to-toe and a 3rd overtime seemed likely, until Kevin Durant made an all-important block, sealing the win for his team. Westbrook finished with 48 points and 8 assists, and Durant collected 43 at the end of the game.
