#3 Taj Gibson could be a backup option
There are no assurances that the Mavs will be able to land one of their top targets ahead of the trade deadline, and Sean Deveney of heavy.com believes that Dallas could add depth by signing a veteran role player such as the Knicks' Taj Gibson.
The easiest path would be to pluck a veteran or two from a go-nowhere team. The Knicks would be a likely partner, with Taj Gibson’s $9.8 million contract a reasonable target.

Gibson spent two seasons as a starter with the Minnesota Timberwolves before heading to New York during the offseason. Gibson has averaged a career-low 16.0 minutes per game over 30 appearances for the Knicks, and the 34-year-old is averaging just 4.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. However, the veteran has a wealth of playoff experience and the former Chicago Bulls man could play a prominent bench role.
