Daniel Gafford is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Dallas Mavericks. Born on Oct. 1, 1998, in El Dorado, Arkansas, led El Dorado to the 6A State title game as a senior.


As a four-star recruit, Gafford committed to the University of Arkansas and was ranked as the No. 11 power forward in the country heading into college. In his sophomore season, Gafford went from 11.8 points as a freshman to an average of 16.9. He was named on the first-team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive team for his 65 blocks in 2019.


In the 2023/24 NBA season, Gafford was traded by the Washington Wizards to the Dallas Mavericks at the trade deadline. Since the trade, he is tied second for most matches played for the Mavs, averaging 11.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks. He led the Mavs in offensive rebounds and blocks in the regular season, and has revolutionized the Mavs defense.

He has formed a defensive partnership with Dereck Lively II, known for their rim defense, and he also led the Mavs in blocks. He also received a trophy for leading the league in field-goal percentage this season. He averaged 11.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game, shooting 72.5% from the field.

Daniel Gafford was drafted by the Chicago Bulls with the 38th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. The 25-year-old center has also played in the G-League, for Windy City Bulls and was then traded to the Washington Wizards in 2021.


He made an insane 33 consecutive field goals for the Mavericks in a streak that lasted from March 5 to March 13, 2024. He came up just two field goals short of Wilt Chamberlain's all-time record of 35 straight field goals made.
