In the 21st century, shoe deals have become an important part of professional athletes’ careers throughout major sporting leagues across the world. But nowhere else do we see its impact more than in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Today, talented basketball players attract multi-million deals with some of the top shoe and apparel manufacturers. Such deals help enhance marketability for both the players and the brand involved.
One such player in the NBA, who has recently signed a promising long-term shoe deal is none other than Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star point guard Darius Garland.
Darius Garland Shoe Deal
Garland recently inked a new sneaker deal with New Balance, one of the world’s biggest shoe brands. Reportedly, the negotiations between both parties went on for months making it a hot topic of discussion within the NBA community.
On November 29, 2023, the partnership was declared official with the duration of the agreement and financial details being undisclosed. With this deal, Garland joined the already decorated cast of NBA athletes signed with New Balance including Jamal Murray, Tyrese Maxey, Zack LaVine, Dejounte Murray and Kawhi Leonard.
As reported by ESPN’s Nick DePaula, Garland will wear the New Balance TWO WXY V4 shoe as part of the deal. The shoe features a unique split-sole design, built to support high/tough impact landings and quick lateral movements. Meanwhile, the shoe’s synthetic upper design provides a stress-free, foot-hugging feel, making the wearer more comfortable.
The shoes are worth approximately $120 on the New Balance website and will likely continue to be an in-demand product during the 2023/24 season.
Garland previously had a multi-year deal with Nike, after he was picked fifth overall by the Cavaliers in the 2019 Draft. He sported multiple signature sneakers such as the Nike Kyrie 7 and Nike Kyrie Infinity.
