Born in Saginaw, Michigan, Darvin Ham is a former professional Basketball player who is more notably known today as the head coach of one of the most coveted teams in the NBA’s Western Conference, the Los Angeles Lakers.

Growing up in Saginaw, Darvin attended Saginaw High School but didn’t begin playing for the School’s basketball team until his senior year. Coming out of Saginaw High, Darvin enrolled in Otero Junior College situated in La Junta, Colorado.

Despite playing limited minutes in his senior year of high school, Ham got a spot in the Otero’s basketball team and played one year of college ball before an uncalled-for tussle with the college baseball players got him dismissed from the institute.

Eventually, Darvin was able to get picked by the Texas Tech University who were more than willing to give Darvin another opportunity. He was determined to not let himself and his family down and made the most of his time at Texas Tech. Playing three years representing the Red Raiders, Darvin averaged 8.1 pounds, 5.1 rebounds, one assist, and 0.8 steals a game.

Darvin Ham Height

Standing 6 feet 7 inches (2.01 meters), Darvin Ham was a dominant post-up player who used to routinely score by attacking the rim. Ham‘s game relied heavily on offense which made him a reliable shot blocker, rebounder, and an excellent role player.

His distinct physical advantages aside from his height also contributed to his longevity and success in the game.

Darvin Ham Weight

Darvin Ham weighed 220 pounds both in college and the NBA. He showcased perfect athleticism and leaping ability which made him a fun player to watch on the hardwood floor.

Being the right weight, Darvin was one of the more enjoyable scorers for Texas Tech due to his insane dunks which include the infamous board-shattering dunk that took place during the 1996 NCAA Sweet 16 encounter between Texas Tech and North Carolina.

His unbelievable display of strength and athleticism even got him featured on the front page of Sports Illustrated that year.

Darvin Ham Wingspan

With an estimated wingspan length close to 6 feet 10 inches, Darvin Ham’s long arms served him a significant advantage as he could outmuscle opponents for boards, reject post-up scoring attempts, and secure crucial possessions via steals for his team.

During his three-season stint with the Milwaukee Bucks, Ham was one of the productive rotation players who got to play decent minutes and improve as a result. Averaging 0.5 steals and 0.6 blocks a game, Ham established himself as a valuable contributor off the bench.

Despite being almost forgotten after eight seasons in the NBA, Ham was a talented Small forward who brought some excitement with his game. It goes without saying that his basketball career deserves more appreciation than it gets. We can hope his expertise and high Basketball IQ as the head coach to be a difference-maker for the Lakers next season.
