Born on May 28, 1998 in North Hollywood, California, De'Anthony Melton plays as a combo guard for the Philadelphia 76ers. Melton was drafted 46th overall by the Houston Rockets in the 2018 NBA Draft, but was traded to the Phoenix Suns before his rookie season began. Just after one season, he was then traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, where he played for three seasons.

Before the NBA, Melton played for the University of South Carolina (USC) in the Pac-12 conference. He played a crucial role in taking USC to the second round of the NCAA tournament in his freshman season. His team secured victories over both future number one and number two NBA draft picks, with Melton playing a significant role in those wins. The number one pick, Markelle Fultz, led the University of Washington, while the number two pick, Lonzo Ball, led UCLA.

Melton's sophomore season was filled with controversy and he was suspended due to the investigation in the college basketball scandal. Hence, he withdrew from USC and declared for the 2018 NBA Draft.
