De’Andre James Hunter plays as small forward for the Atlanta Hawks in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Hunter won the NCAA championship with the University of Virginia in 2019 and also won the NABC Defensive Player of the Year.

Throughout the 2022/23 season, Hunter played 67 games with the Atlanta Hawks and averaged 15.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He shot 46.1% from the field, including 35.0% from deep. Hunter has established himself as a good two-way player in the league, and can guard multiple positions. He will be looking to take the Hawks to the postseason for the fourth time in his career in the 2023/24 season.

De’Andre Hunter Draft

De’Andre Hunter was first drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the fourth overall pick in 2019 NBA Draft. However, on July 6, 2019, he was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans through a three-team trade deal involving Washington Wizards. In return, the Lakers received Anthony Davis and a first round pick from 2023 from the Pelicans.

On July 7, 2019, De’Andre Hunter was traded by the New Orleans Pelicans to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for a 2020 first round pick, Marcos Louzada Silva, Jaxson Hayes and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Hunter has been with the Atlanta Hawks ever since.

De’Andre Hunter enrolled at University of Virginia and played collegiate basketball for the Virginia Cavaliers. He was honored as the ACC Sixth Man of the Year during his freshman year.

Hunter’s most notable accomplishment during his collegiate basketball career was taking his team to the finals of the 2019 NCAA tournament. There, he scored 27 points, had nine rebounds, and made a game-tying 3-pointer, thereby taking the game to overtime. Eventually, his team the Virginia Cavaliers defeated the Texas Tec Red Raiders with a score of 85-77, winning the NCAA title.

Throughout his college career, Hunter averaged 12.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He shot 50.9% from the field, including 41.9% from deep.

Following this, he skipped his final two seasons of college and declared for the 2019 NBA draft, where he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers.
