Demar Derozan is one of the best mid-range shooters we have ever seen. He is right on the list with the best mid-range shooters in the league like Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Kawhi Leonard. He is also one of the clutchest players in the league, who can at times will his team to victory by simply just being reliable.

DeRozan started his NBA career with the Toronto Raptors and played alongside Kyle Lowry for nine seasons. With the Raptors, DeRozan was a four-time All-Star and made multiple playoff runs. Unfortunately for him, he could never take them to the NBA Finals and after trying for years, the Raptors traded him to the San Antonio Spurs. DeRozan and the Raptors played in the Eastern Conference Finals once, where they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

So far in his career, DeRozan has had 23 games with 40 or more points. He is recognized as one of the best scorers in the league and is a dead-eye shooter from the field. DeRozan had a rough childhood and he was brought up in one of the deadliest places in the world, that is Compton, California. Compton is known for its violence and gang activity. However, basketball kept him away from distractions and he was one of the top recruits in high school.

Deebo is a mid-range specialist who does not attempt many 3-pointers. He has a very old school approach to his game. He has lost his athleticism that he once had, but is still one of the most dangerous when attacking the rim.

Currently with the Chicago Bulls, DeRozan is having another stellar season, averaging 21.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in 20 games in the 2023/24 season. The Bulls are currently struggling racking up wins, but one cannot say it’s DeRozan’s fault.

Why is Demar DeRozan nicknamed “Deebo?”

In Podcast P with Paul George, George asked DeRozan why he was called Deebo. DeRozan told George that the famous nickname started when he was a sixth grader in school. DeRozan apparently got into it with an eighth grader and had a fight with him. After DeRozan beat the eighth grader, his whole school started calling him Deebo.

What is even fascinating is that the fight started because DeRozan was way too athletic even in grade six. He dunked on the eighth grader which started the scuffle between the two.

“Deebo” was the nickname DeRozan picked up from the tall character in the 1995 Ice Cube movie, “Friday.”

DeRozan is one of the best players in the NBA today and is currently looking for his first championship ring.
