Schröder’s NBA career kicked off with the Atlanta Hawks in July 2013. His adaptation to the league was not that easy at the start. He caused many turnovers causing him to lose minutes on the court. He soon realised that things are different in the world's greatest league. He had to really work on his game and make a name for himself.

After a season with the Hawks, Schröder got a hang of the fast pace gameplay. During his time there, he further refined his game, contributing significantly to the team's scoring output. He had many career-high games during the second season.

His stint with the Atlanta Hawks carried on for 5 years since his joining. He made some career-high performances, and his trade to the Oklahoma City Thunder saw him play vital roles in key games.

His first season marked him as the vital sixth man. Schröder was trusted with coming off the bench and contributing to the team's scoring. He was part of the Thunder for 2 years of his career and was vital to the team's success coming off the bench.

After his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Schröder changed teams on a yearly basis. He was part of the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets before making a return to the Lakers. Schröder made considerable contributions in helping the Lakers secure a place in the 2022/23 playoffs.
