The Detroit Pistons get their rematch against the Boston Celtics on Wednesday. After losing 124-118 to the defending champs in late October, the Pistons try to avenge that defeat in their next meeting. Detroit, playing on short rest, hopes to pull the upset against the hosts.

The Celtics will turn their full attention to the regular season after their NBA Cup hopes of earning a wild card spot were dashed on Tuesday. Jrue Holiday (knee) and Jayson Tatum (knee) are ruled questionable. If they’re not cleared to play, Payton Pritchard, Xavier Tillman and Drew Peterson could see more playing time.

Detroit Pistons vs Boston Celtics preview

The Detroit Pistons can’t afford to give up a big quarter to the defending champs. Cade Cunningham and Co. have to keep the game close to have a chance of beating the Celtics. In the Pistons’ 128-107 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, they went down 42-28 in the second quarter and never recovered. The same thing could happen if they can’t keep in step with their hosts.

The Boston Celtics can’t afford to overlook the Pistons, who will play the second night of a back-to-back set. They have to move the ball well to find the open man, particularly if Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday are out.

Boston leads the NBA by a mile in 3-point attempts, averaging 50.9 shots from deep this season. They hoisted 55 long-range bombs in their 108-89 demolition of the Miami Heat on Monday. Expect them to continue aggressively launching from deep to overwhelm the Pistons.

Detroit Pistons vs Boston Celtics betting tips

Cade Cunningham averages 2.3 3-pointers per game this season. The Celtics defense might not be in top form, particularly if Jrue Holiday is out. Cunningham will get his chances to hoist from deep and likely top his 1.5 (O/U) 3-point prop.

Jalen Duren contributes 8.8 points and 9.6 rebounds per game this season for the Pistons. Against the Celtics, he could top 15.5 (O/U) for points and rebounds combined. Duren is an aggressive rebounder and will get his chance to score from follow-ups and lobs.

Detroit Pistons vs Boston Celtics prediction

The short rest will not be easy to overcome for the Detroit Pistons against the Boston Celtics. The defending champs are likely repeating over the Pistons but allow their opponents to cover the -14.0 spread.
