Vassell’s minutes increased to 28.8 in his sophomore season, and he participated in the 2019 Emerald Coast Classic. There, he scored 16 points against the Chicago State Cougars, 13 points against the Tennessee Volunteers 13 points against the Purdue Boilermakers in the final. Resultantly, he was honored as the Most Outstanding Player of the 2019 Emerald Coast Classic and was also a member of the Second Team All-ACC.

Throughout his sophomore season, Vassell averaged 12.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 30 games. He shot 49.0% from the field, including 41.5% from deep. After two seasons in college, Vassell declared for the NBA draft.
