Nick Kyrgios is a popular tennis player who has achieved a lot of success during his career. The 27-year-old Australian tennis player played against Novak Djokovic in the final game of the 2022 Wimbledon Championship, but ended up losing the game.
In early January 2023, Kyrgios became a part-owner of the South East Melbourne Phoenix, an NBL team. Considering that he's been in love with basketball, this move came as no surprise.
The tennis player has publicly stated that he prefers basketball over tennis, which is somewhat unusual considering how good he is at tennis. However, he's played basketball and has loved it ever since.

Nick Kyrgios loves basketball more than tennis
Kyrgios' parents recognized the talent that he had and wanted him to play tennis. Eventually, it all paid off as the Australian player is currently one of the best tennis players in the world. He's ranked 21st in the 2023 ATP Rankings.
Despite having a lot of success in tennis, Kyrgios' career may have gone differently. He's expressed his love for basketball and wanted to play it, but his parents had other plans.
"I don’t really like the sport of tennis that much. I don’t love it," Nick Kyrgios told The Independent back in 2015. "It was crazy when I was 14. I was all for basketball and I made the decision to play tennis. I got pushed by my parents and to this day I can still say I don’t love the sport."

The popular tennis played was 14 when he stopped playing basketball, yet he still loves the sport. In fact, he even thought about having a professional basketball career at one point, but it's probably too late for it now.
"I just love basketball, I love the sport. I always have," the tennis player added.
The 27-year-old tennis player also admitted that he loves watching basketball videos when he's on the road. However, he tries not to watch too many videos so he can stay focused.
Kyrgios now owns a basketball team
Nick Kyrgios' net worth is estimated at $15 million as of January 2023. Due to this, it's no surprise that he's decided to invest money in the sport that he truly loves.
It's interesting that the Phoenix ownership group also includes a couple of active and former NBA players.
