Donovan Mitchell is a professional basketball player who plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA as of March 2025. Mitchell was selected as the 13th overall pick by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft. However, he was traded to the Utah Jazz for the 24th pick and Trey Lyes. Mitchell played for the Jazz for five seasons, where he averaged 28.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. In 2022, Mitchell was traded to the Cavaliers, and in the same season, he led the team to their first playoff run in five seasons. Again in the 2023-24 season, Mitchell along with Darius Garland led the team to another playoff but lost in the semifinals of the Eastern Conference. In three seasons with the Cavaliers, Mitchell is averaging 26.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game as of March 2025.

Mitchell went to the University of Louisville, where he spent two seasons and averaged 15.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in his sophomore season. Before his college career, Mitchell went to Canterbury High School where he spent the first two years of high school. For his junior and senior years, Mithcell's mother transferred him to Brewster Academy, where he won two prep school championships.

Donovan Mitchell signed an upcoming three-year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2024, that will start after the 2024-25 season. This contract will run through the 2027/28 season. This extension begins with the 2025/26 season, with two more seasons in 2026/27 and 2027/28. However, the 2027/28 NBA season is a player option for Donovan Mitchell. However, his five-year contract will expire in 2025 which he signed in 2020 with the Utah Jazz.

How much is Donovan Mitchell’s contract with the Cavaliers?

Donovan Mitchell is in his five-year rookie max extended contract worth $163 million that he signed with the Utah Jazz. A major term of the contract was that it had a Player Option for the 2025/26 season worth $37,096,620. Mitchell decided to decline this player option in favor of signing a new deal with Cleveland.

On July 7, 2024, Donovan Mitchell signed a new three-year, $150.32 million contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
