Drew Peterson plays as a small forward and power forward for the Boston Celtics. Born and raised in Libertyville, Illinois, Peterson attended Libertyville High School where he was named Lake County Player of the Year in his senior year as he averaged 26.1 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game. After high school, Peterson first played college ball at Rice University, where he played for two seasons (2018–2020). Then he was transferred to USC where he played three seasons from 2020 to 2023, and in the final season for the Trojans, Peterson averaged 13.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. Peterson was named back-to-back First-Team All-Pac-12 in 2022 and 2023.

Although Peterson went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft, the Miami Heat gave him an opportunity. He joined their G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, on October 30, 2023, and averaged 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists across 13 games. His strong showing in the early season of the 2024 G League caught the attention of the Boston Celtics, who signed him later that season. As of November 2024, Peterson remains with the Celtics, continuing to develop his skills and contribute to the team.
