Smith attended college at the University of Evansville and played for the Purple Aces from 2015 to 2017, and in his second year, scored 13.7 points, grabbed 3.5 rebounds, dished 4.6 assists, and stole the ball 2.0 times on average. He later transferred to the University of Missouri in 2019.
