Dwight David Howard II is a professional basketball player who is currently a free agent. Howard is one of the best centers of all time. He was one of the strongest and most explosive centers to ever play the game of basketball. He spent 8 seasons with the Orlando Magic where he was arguably the best center in the league. He was one of the best defenders, erasing shots away with ease. He once averaged 2.9 blocks per game in the 2008-2009 NBA season and went on to win three Defensive Player of the Year awards while he played for the Orlando Magic.

Howard is in fact called Superman because he chose to wear a Superman shirt when he entered the Slam Dunk competition and also was a beast in the paint. Shaquille O Neal is the most dominating force we have ever seen but Howard is a close second. Nobody could stop him when he was in the paint and there was nothing anybody could do to guard him.

Despite his dominance, Howard’s career started declining rapidly after he left the Orlando Magic. When he joined the Lakers, he did not mesh well with Kobe Bryant and it led to chemistry issues between the two. After the Lakers, he bounced around from one team to another and could not find a team that he was okay playing with. His decline in athleticism, lack of shooting, and injuries, ultimately pushed him out of the league.

Even though Superman is not playing in the NBA anymore, Howard is without a doubt one of the best centers ever. The most surprising fact however is that he never made the NBA’s 75th anniversary teams. Many fans and analysts believe that he was snubbed from making it to that list.

Dwight Howard MVP awards

Howard does not have an MVP award on his resume. He came very close to winning one back in 2011 but lost the MVP race to Derrick Rose. Despite not winning an MVP, he has a whole stack of awards he won throughout his career and some of them are;

  • Howard was an 8 time NBA All-Star.

  • Led the league in Rebound 5 times.

  • Led the league in Blocks, 2 times.

  • Won an NBA Championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

  • 8 times All-NBA honors

  • 2004-2005 All-Rookie team

  • Howard was named to 5 All-Defensive teams.

  • Won the Defensive Player of the Year award three times in his career.

Only two players in NBA history have won more Defensive Player of the Year awards than Howard. He is the first and the only player in NBA history to have won the DPOY award for three consecutive years (2009 - 2011).

Currently, Howard is out of the NBA and was last playing for Taoyuan Leopards of the T1 League in Taiwan. He recently tried to make a comeback to the NBA but was not successful in doing so. Despite all the trouble he is going through now, Howard will be one of the best players ever.
