The Egyptian national basketball team is primarily governed by the Egyptian Basketball Federation. This team joined FIBA in 1934 and since then they are actively participating in several basketball championships. Egypt won the title of the EuroBasket 1949 which is the most significant title of an African nation as well. Egypt finished fifth in the first World Cup championship organised by FIBA in 1950.
