
Emoni Bates plays small forward for the Cleveland Cavaliers as of March 2025. He was born on January 28, 2004, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, U.S. and started playing basketball at the age of three. Bates started competing in the Amateur Athletic Union in the fourth grade. He started his high school career with Lincoln High School and helped them claim their first regional championship and MHSAA Division 1 state title as a freshman.
Bates was a two-time MaxPreps National Player of the Year, Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year and Associate Press Division 1 Player of the Year in his freshman and sophomore years, along with All-State first-team honors as a freshman. He was a consensus five-star recruit and one of the top players of the 2021 class. Bates ended his collegiate career, where he played a total of 30 games, scoring 577 points, grabbing 173 rebounds, and making 42 assists.

On June 22, 2023, Emoni Bates was picked as the 49th overall pick in the second round by the Cavaliers in the 2023 NBA Draft. He signed a two-way contract with the Cavaliers on July 7, 2023, and joined the NBA G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge. On October 28, 2023, Bates made his NBA regular season debut against the Indiana Pacers. As of March 20, 2025, Bates has played a total of 22 games, averaging 2.1 points and 0.6 blocks in 7.3 minutes per game. He was named the NBA G League Next-Up Game in 2024.
