South Asian Basketball Association representative India lost to Chinese Taipei 57-85 in the Level 1 encounter on the first day of the ongoing 25th FIBA Asia Championship for Women which is ongoing in the Thai capital city, Bangkok.
The Indian team were no match to Chinese Taipei as the latter took the first three quarters 27-10, 24-20 and 17-10 respectively and the last quarter was drawn with both teams netting 17 points each. Despite the game-high 22 points from Anitha Pauldurai, India lost to the Chinese Taipei 57-85. Yi-Ting Wu top scored with 18 points for Chinese Taipei.

In the other Level 1 match on the day, Japan thrashed Kazakhstan 94-59. Japan dominated the entire match from the beginning and they took all the quarters 20-16, 38-15, 16-11 and 20-17 to thrash the Central Asian representative.

In another Level 1 match, Korea defeated the defending champions China 72-70 with a buzzer-beater from Kwak Joo-Yeong. Korea took the first quarter 17-14 and also took the second quarter 17-15. After the break, Korea also took the third quarter 21-2o. Despite China taking the last quarter 21-17, it didn’t stop Korea from gaining full points from the match. Jung Eun Kim top scored with 19 points for Korea while Wen Lu was the top scorer with 24 points for China.

A total of 12 teams are participating in the 25th edition of the FIBA ASIA Championship for Women which is going to be held at Bangkok from October 27 to November 3, 2013. Top three teams from the championship will qualify for the FIBA World Championship for Women to be played in Turkey from September 27 to October 5, 2014.
