India lost their second preliminary match today. We were led by Narender Grewal and Rikin Pethani who scored 14 points a piece. Amritpal Singh added 9 points and 14 rebounds. We were completely dominated on the glass, outrebounded 37-54. And they capitalized on their advantage too, scoring 25 second chance points to our 4, since they had 19 offensive rebounds to our 6. Three of our players, Joginder, Vishese and Rikin played almost the entire match, only about 2 1/2 minutes of rest between the three of them.
“We certainly have improved in our two games. But there are moments in the game when the experience of the players makes a lot of difference. This something we lacked yesterday and we lacked the same thing today also,” – India’s assistant coach, JP Singh said.
Our next match is vs Chinese Taipei tomorrow at 8am. They are ranked 42 to our 58 in FIBA Men’s rankings. We have a shot at them and we only need one win to advance here.
