India lost to China 72 – 124 in the Level one match in the opening day of the 22nd FIBA ASIA U18 Championship for women, which is underway at Amman, Jordan.
China dominated the entire match and started by taking the first quarter 34 – 7. China also took the second quarter 30 – 19 and went to the half time break with a huge 38 point lead. After the break, India tried to come back in the match but china took the third and last quarter 25 – 22 & 35 – 24 respectively to win the match.
In other level one matches of the opening day of the championship, Japan beat Thailand 97 – 39 and Korea beat Chinese Taipei 72 – 63. In the level two matches of the championship, Malaysia beat Kyrgyzstan 95 – 34, Hong Kong beat Jordan 55 – 49 and Sri Lanka defeated Kazakhstan 70 – 61.
22nd FIBA ASIA U18 Championship for women is played in two levels. Elite level one consists of six teams – China, India, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Chinese Taipei while six other teams – Hong Kong, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia and Sri Lanka – will play in Qualifying Level II with the top two teams having a shot at qualifying for next edition’s Level I competition.
The 22nd FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Women is the qualifying event for the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship for Women to be played in Russia. The top three teams from the 22nd FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Women will represent FIBA Asia at the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship for Women.
