
The most awaited basketball festival is here, just one month from now. All the teams are ready with their 12-man roster and will be competing in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan from 25 August to 10 September. Each and every team is set to put in all the effort and prepared to sweat to snag the World Cup trophy and showcase their global dominance.
Group D is quite a normal group having Mexico, Egypt, Montenegro, and Lithuania in the pool. Mexico is set to participate in its sixth FIBA World Cup, the last being in 2014 when they were eliminated by the USA in the playoffs, while Egypt, Montenegro, and Lithuania have appeared in six, two, and five FIBA World Cups.
What are the teams in the Group D of the FIBA Basketball World Cup?
The matches for the first phase in Group D will be played from 25 August to 29 August and the teams include Mexico, Egypt, Montenegro, and Lithuania.
Group D is one of the eight groups in the FIBA Basketball World Cup. Each team will be playing one-one matches with the other three teams thus, a total of six matches will be played. The top two teams will compete in the second round of the tournament to make their place in the playoffs and the remaining two teams will play for the classification matches to determine the 17th-32nd ranking.

Mexico (FIBA ranking -31)
Team Mexico is one of the teams with the lethal three-point shooting in the event. In the 2014 World Cup, the team played their first World Cup in 40 years and holds the record for the highest number of field goal percentages among all the teams in the tournament.
After having a good start in the tournament, Mexico reached the playoffs for the first time in their history but their dream to lift the trophy got shattered as they were defeated by the USA in the playoffs.
Egypt (FIBA ranking- 55)
Team Egypt has six World Cup appearances and will be playing the seventh in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan. The team had a very normal journey over the last few decades, their best performance came in the World Cup of 1950, when the team finished in fifth place.

Lithuania (FIBA ranking- 8)
A strong performance was seen from Lithuania in the 2019 World Cup. They reached the quarter-finals of the tournament but got eliminated by the eventual champion, Spain in a close competitive match thus, finishing their journey at the quarter-finals.
Montenegro (FIBA ranking -18)
Team Montenegro is the new emerging team in the FIBA. They have qualified twice in their history, once in 2019 and second in 2023. The team faces an early exit in their debut World Cup.
