All 16 nations’ teams that competed in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup participated in the tournament with the chance of only eight qualifying. The sixteen teams that took part were Australia, New Zealand, China, Chinese Taipei, Bahrain, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Japan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Philippines, South Korea, and Syria.
Since the Philippines and Japan were co-hosts, they automatically qualified. The third co-host Indonesia was required to finish in the top eight of the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup to qualify but could not, leaving six spots up for grabs.
With each team vying for limited spots in the FIBA World Cup, each game was crucial. Despite being automatic qualifiers, Japan and the Philippines participated in the tournament.

Only the top three countries from the two groups could further progress to the world cup besides the host nations. Teams that won their way to the world cup showcased exceptional teamwork combined with individual brilliance.
