Since 2020, the qualification for the Olympic Games is through the FIBA Basketball World Cup. This makes the process balanced and ensures the representation of teams from every continent. The FIBA World Cup 2023 will be played from 25 August to 10 September and occurs once in four years. This is the second time that 32 teams from all around the globe are participating including teams from Africa, Asia, America, Europe, and Oceania.

Qualification for Olympic Games
The FIBA World Cup of 2023 will allocate free berths to the seven teams who finish at the top in their regions. The bifurcation of the seven teams will be like, two from America and Europe and one each from Asia, Africa, and Oceania. In the Olympics, a total of 12 teams compete from around the globe, the selection of the first eight teams follows through the above process, and the remaining four spots are determined after the result of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament has been announced.
The selection for holding the four seats at the Olympics happens in two phases, the first phase, Pre-Qualifying Tournament (FOPQTs) includes an intense competition between the 40 different teams, and these forty teams are chosen by their performance in the previous Basketball World Cup Qualifiers. Out of these 40 teams, five teams will qualify for the second phase, the Olympic Qualifying Tournament (FOQTs). Thus, the final competition began and the top four teams, two from Europe and one each from America, Asia, and Africa snagged the spot for the Olympics games.
