After skipping the 2019 FIBA World Cup, Mexico decided to return to the world of basketball with its 12-man roster. This year, the Mexico national basketball team has qualified for the FIBA World Cup which is scheduled to begin the following month on August 25 and will cease on 10 September.
Mexico will play in Group D this year alongside Egypt, Montenegro and Lithuania. The games of this group will begin on August 25 and the winner from the primary/first round will advance to the second round. In the second round, the winner and runner-up will face the winner and runner-up of Group C on September 1. The venue for the second round will be Okinawa Arena, Okinawa.
The Mexico national basketball team became a member of FIBA in 1933. Since then, they have participated in 10 FIBA World Cups but have never won any medals. This team is mainly administered by the Asociación Deportiva Mexicana de Básquetbol (ADEMEBA).
Throughout their basketball journey, Mexico has appeared in five Olympic Games and received a Bronze medal in 1936. In addition to this, they have participated in 15 FIBA AmeriCup championships and won a Gold medal in 2013 and a Bronze medal in 2017.
Mexico Roster
Mexico has announced its 12-man roster for the FIBA World Cup 2023. The team includes some experienced players like Paul Stoll and Jorge Gutierrez who know very well how to play competitions at such levels. The Mexico national basketball team will play under the supervision of head coach Omar Quintero.
Omar Quintero organised several practice sessions for the team in the country. These practice sessions included friendly matches against Cuba and Colombia. This really helped the players to boost their gaming skills to have a rocking performance in the FIBA World Cup championship.
