Coach Pero Cameron has named the 21-men extended roster for the upcoming FIBA World Cup. This time the team is a little bit diversified, with players from World Cup qualifiers and Asia Cup squad. Before the FIBA World Cup starts, the 12-man squad will visit Japan, Germany, and China for their pre-World Cup preparation tour.
Earlier, the Tall Blacks had proved their dominance by becoming the first team to qualify for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup from Asia. Talking about the past performances, out of the sixth FIBA appearances, the team’s best was seen in the 2002 World Cup, when they advanced their journey to the Semi-finals. This year, the team will try to replicate their 2002 performance.
Team New Zealand Roster
The team will miss the experience of some Veteran players like Tom Abercrombie and Rob Loe. However, how the new players fill that gap and provide depth to the team is still questionable.
New Zealand will play their first match of the 2023 World Cup on 26 August in the Philippines capital city, Manila and will face Greece, USA, and Jordan in the first round of the competition. The Group phase matches are going to be challenging, as the team with the most World Cups, the USA, and the European dominant Greece are in the pool.
The 2002 FIBA Hall of Famer and the current coach, Pero Cameron, has shown faith and confidence in his new team hence, he will look to improve the team's 19th position finish in the 2019 World Cup.
