The Warriors and Team USA coach, Steve Kerr has announced the roster that will represent the USA national team in the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan. The team is ready to make a full effort to grab another World Cup, the last came up in 2014.
After the 2022-23 offseason, players are ready for another big opportunity, the World Cup. The 12-man roster will start their training camp on August 7, when they have an exhibition with Puerto Rico.
2023 NBA Rookie of the Year, Paolo Banchero, 2023 NBA All-Stars, Anthony Edwards, and Tyrese Haliburton are some notable players in the USA team.
Team USA Roster
Out of the eight groups, the USA is placed in group C. The other teams in the group were New Zealand, Greece, and Jordan. After an early defeat in the 2019 edition, the team will aim high for this time, at least to the final phase of the tournament.
The team will have its first-round match on 26 August against New Zealand, will face Greece after a one-day rest on 28 August, and finally Jordan on 30th August. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second round. And if the USA succeeds to make it to the top two in its pool, then will join the top teams from Group D which includes Mexico, Egypt, Montenegro, and Lithuania.
This will be the 19th flagship event for the FIBA, starting in 1950 and the USA have qualified for the all 19 times. Last time, in 2019, they finished in the seventh position as they lost against China in the quarter-finals. Overall, the USA and Yugoslavia have won the championship five-five times, the highest by any nation, then the Soviet Union has three titles in its bucket and lastly, Spain and Brazil lift the trophy twice.
This event will act as a qualifying round for the 2024 Summer Olympics going to take place in France. Two teams from both America and Europe will qualify and one-one from the remaining, Africa, Asia, and Oceania.
