Frederick Edmund VanVleet Sr. was born on February 25, 1994. He is an American professional basketball player in the NBA. Fred is currently playing for the Toronto Raptors in NBA.


Fred began his basketball career after attending Auburn High School in Rockford, Illinois. He participated in various championships with his school’s basketball team and this ultimately developed his interest in basketball. For pursuing his career in basketball, Fred enrolled at Wichita State University. He played basketball for the Wichita State Shockers men’s basketball team.

Fred VanVleet stands at 6 feet tall (1.83m) barefoot and stands at 6 feet 1 inch (1.85m) in shoes. He is one of the shortest players in the NBA but his height has never proved to be a negative factor in his success.


Additionally, Fred weighs around 88 kg (194 lbs). However, his weight may differ with time depending on the physical exercise that he performs to keep him physically fit. Along with his weight, Fred has a wingspan of 6 feet 2 inches. His surrounding opponents generally have a wingspan of around 7 feet but this does not demotivate him. Fred has great basketball skills that allow him to score well in the championships.


Fred VanVleet’s NBA Career

After passing out from college, Fred decided to enter the National Basketball Association. For this, he declared for the 2016 NBA draft but he went undrafted. Despite that, he began his NBA career with the Toronto Raptors. Later he signed a contract with the team after his 2016 NBA Summer League.


Fred was outstanding with his skills and led his team to the 2018 NBA playoffs. In the season he averaged 8.6 points and 2.4 rebounds over 76 games. With his performance, the team decided to keep him as an asset for further years while signing a contract.


In August 2020, Fred had 30 points and 11 assists against the Brooklyn Nets and became the first player in the team’s history to accomplish this task. Again the contract was renewed in November 2020. After joining the team, Fred played in the 2021-22 season against teams such as the Los Angeles Clippers, San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks, and Utah Jazz.


In 2022, Fred suffered from a hip flexor injury while playing in the 2022 NBA playoffs. So, he missed six games of the regular season with this injury. On April 2, 2023, Fred scored a career-high 20 points, 20 assists and five rebounds in a game against the Charlotte Hornets. He was offered a player option of $22.8 million in June 2023. But, he declined this offer and chose to be an unrestricted free agent for the 2023 offseason.
