In his senior season, Fred faced many difficulties in this season as he had a hamstring injury when he rolled his ankle in late October. This injury ultimately affected his performance and caused him to miss four games. Fred originally returned to the court in early December and led the team to straight 15 wins.

After this, the franchise went on to have an impressive performance in upcoming matches. Fred led his college team to advance to the 2016 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament, where they won over Arizona and Vanderbilt. After finishing the season, he was selected to the Missouri Valley Conference all-league first team. Following this, Fred declared for the 2016 NBA draft but was not drafted.

Despite that, he played in the 2016 NBA Summer League after signing with the Toronto Raptors. Later, on July 18, he signed a multi-year deal with the group.
