
Born on June 17, 1993, Georges Niang nicknamed “The Minivan,” is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Atlanta Hawks. As a four-star recruit out of high school, Niang played college basketball for Iowa, playing 138 games over four seasons. He was named the Big 12 Tournament MVP in 2015 and made multiple All- Big-12 teams.
The Indiana Pacers selected Niang with the 50th overall pick in the second round of the 2016 NBA Draft. Since then, he has played for multiple teams, including the Utah Jazz, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Niang signed a three-year $25.5 million deal with the Cavaliers in July 2023. In February 2025, Niang along with Caris Levert and three second-round picks was traded by the Cavs to the Hawks in exchange for De'Andre Hunter. Niang made his debut as a Hawks player against the Wizards on February 9 and scored 16 points on his debut. In the 2023/24 season for the Cavs, Niang played all 82 games, averaging a career-high 9.4 points per game.

Georges Niang’s basketball journey began at Tilton School, where he became one of the best players in school history, scoring a school-record 2,372 points. He averaged 24.2 points and 8.2 rebounds as a junior and led his team to the 2011 NEPSAC Class AA championship. As a senior, he averaged 25.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, and won the 2012 NEPSAC Class AA Player of the Year award.
