Giannis Antetokounmpo is a two-time NBA MVP and is considered by many as one of the best players in the league. He currently plays as a power forward/ small forward for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Antetokounmpo was picked 15th overall in the 2013 NBA draft by the Bucks and besides being a two-time league MVP, he is also a seven-time All-Star and has been named on the All-NBA First Team on five occasions. He also won the Defensive Player of the Year in 2020 and has been named on the All-Defensive First Team four times. For the 2023-24 NBA season, Giannis Antetokounmpo averaged 30.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. The film “Rise,” which was released in 2022, is based on Antetokounmpo and his family.

Giannis Antetokounmpo represents Greece on the international basketball stage. He first played for Greece’s junior national team in 2013 at the age of 19 and led them to an 8-2 record and a fifth-place finish in the FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship.

The following year in 2014, Giannis joined Greece’s senior men’s national team. He played for the Greek national team at the 2014 FIBA World Cup which secured a ninth-place finish. At EuroBasket 2015, Giannis showed that he could be a future star for the Greece national team, as he helped Greece go undefeated in the group stage before losing to powerhouse Spain in the quarter-finals. 21-year-old Giannis put the whole world on notice by recording three triple-doubles and multiple 20+ points games. Unfortunately, Giannis missed EuroBasket 2017 due to a knee injury.

When he returned for the 2019 FIBA World Cup, he was fresh off his 2019 NBA MVP win. However, Greece struggled and didn’t make it past the second round. Giannis then represented Greece at EuroBasket 2022, but they were eliminated in the quarter-finals, this time by Germany. The crowning moment of Giannis' Greece career came when he led Greece to qualify for the 2024 Olympics. It was a historic moment as the 2024 Paris appearance was the country’s first Olympic basketball appearance since 2008. During qualification, Giannis gave his all, playing a key role, and helping Greece beat teams like Luka Dončić's Slovenia.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Giannis had the honor of carrying the Greek flag in the Opening Ceremony, becoming the first African-American Greek citizen to lead Greece’s athletes in the parade. At the Paris Olympics, Greece competed in a tough group stage against Canada, Spain, and Australia. They finished with a 1–2 record and advanced to the quarter-finals. In the quarter-finals, Greece faced Germany, and they again lost to the 2023 World Champions. Giannis gave another strong performance, scoring 22 points. Giannis Antetokounmpo averaged a tournament-high 25.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game at the 2024 Paris Olympics, shooting an impressive 67.8% from the field. His outstanding play earned him a spot on the Paris Olympics All-Second Team.
